A different kind of tea

Tea madame?

A cuppa? with a hint of spice that is good for you? Well, the Somalilander knows how to tea
………….and it is different.
The good way, as in, a better for thy health type of tea.

Though little is known in general about the food culture of Somaliland, there are enough similarities to be found with other cuisines. One surprising aspect of the food in this culture is how lively it is.
When food is involved, Somalilanders like to come together and share.

It is an unconventional cuisine where they put spicy’s in everything, even in their coffee and tea. Because why choose when you can have it all?

A culture where they know how to tea differently. Here is a healthy tea recipe to enrich your pallet;

Put one litre of water in a pan with black tea powder, half a teaspoon of ginger powder and some gloves. Add some cardamom powder and bring it to a boil. Once it starts to boil, if you want, you can add milk to it and continue cooking it until you get a light brown caramel-coloured smooth substance. Let it simmer on low heat for a total of 15min. If you like your tea strong, use an additional 10 minutes of cooking time. The same principle applies to black tea. The darker your tea gets, the stronger it is.

The aromas released from this tea are impeccable, tickling and putting your senses at ease while at the same time increasing your focus and concentration mode. This tea doesn’t just smell good. The spices carry many nutritional benefits.
